BELMONT, W.Va. -- A fire at a business near the Pleasants County Schools bus garage led to classes being canceled Monday.
Crews responded to a Monday morning at Life Guard Medical Supply at 208 Riverview Drive in Belmont, according to Deputy State Fire Marshal Jason Baltic.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to Deputy State Fire Marshal Jason Baltic. One individual, whose name was not available at press time, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.
Nearby is the Pleasant County School District's Bus Garage. According to the school district's Facebook page, classes were canceled for the day, the third day of school for the year.
The district is assessing all buses for potential damage from fire exposure. Not every bus was exposed to the fire but all will undergo inspections to ensure they are safe for occupation and operation, the district said.
Classes will resume today, and school officials do not anticipate delays in service. Pleasants County Schools plans to operate today using spare buses to ensure transportation is available for students while those affected by the fire are examined properly. The district aims to complete the inspection of all buses by the end of the week and to return all buses back to proper service.
