PARKERSBURG -- Authorities have provided updates on a pair of Monday accidents.
The names of the drivers involved in a head-on collision on Ohio 339 were released Tuesday.
Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Cody Quattlebaum said Melissa Clayton, 49, of Cutler, was driving a tan Mercury that collided around 1:30 p.m. with a white Kia Forte driven by Justin Abbott, 37, of Vincent. Abbott had three juvenile passengers in his vehicle.
Both drivers were taken to WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center from the scene, while the juveniles were taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital's Belpre Campus, Quattlebaum said. Abbott was later taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, where the trooper said he had been listed in critical condition. An update on his condition was not available Tuesday night.
Clayton was also transferred, but the location was not immediately known Tuesday evening.
One of the juveniles was discharged from the Belpre Campus with minor injuries, Quattlebaum said, but two others were taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus. He said they were in stable condition.
The crash remains under investigation.
No injuries were reported in an accident on Interstate 77 in Wood County Monday evening.
Charles Roberts, 46, of Whipple, was traveling south on I-77 near the Williamstown exit when his car apparently hydroplaned on the wet roadway around 5:40 p.m., sending the vehicle into the median. The Toyota Corolla rolled over and landed on its top in the median, said Wood County Sheriff's Deputy J.S. Kidder.
Roberts was wearing a seatbelt at the time.
Zachary Stier, 32, of Washington, W.Va., was driving northbound on I-77 at the time. Stier said the back tire of Roberts' car hit his windshield, Kidder said.
No citations were issued in the incident.
