Teen counselors sought for 4-H camps
The Washington County 4-H program is looking for teen counselors to help with 4-H camps. Teens do not have to currently be in 4-H to be a counselor. The program offers a special club that only meets during the training sessions for those who are not in another community club. 4-H offers three camps during the summer: Beginner Camp July 1-2, Junior Camp July 8-12 and Senior Camp July 22-26.
Teens can help with just one or all three (based on age and experience.) Potential counselors need to be 14 years of age by the start of camp.

Dance and fundraiser to benefit HSOV
Humane Society of the Ohio Valley is having a dance and fundraiser to help raise money for animals in their care from 7 p.m. to midnight March 30 at the Marietta Shrine Club. Music, appetizers from da Vinci's restaurant and desserts from The Sweet Spot will be served. Single tickets are $40 and eight tickets with eight reserved seats at a table are $375. Event to raise funds for Riverfront Roar
A ROARin' Cabin Fever Party featuring The BASH will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight Feb. 16 at the Marietta Shrine Club. A fundraiser for July's Riverfront Roar festivities, the event includes a nacho bar, country store, 50/50 drawings and purse and gun raffles. Family skills program at Ely Chapman
Family & Children First is sponsoring a winter session of the Strengthening Families 10-14 program. The sessions will be held Feb. 19 through April 2 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Ely Chapman Education Foundation, 403 Scammel St. The program, for parents and youth ages 10-14, is a parent, youth and family skills-building curriculum designed to build family strengths, strengthen parenting skills, prevent teen substance abuse and other behavioral problems. The seven-week session is free with dinner and child care provided. Transportation assistance is also available. Registration is limited.
