From Staff Reports

A McConnelsville man was confirmed dead Monday by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Jeremy A. Pope, 42, was reported missing by friends and family on Friday, last pinged in Corning.

Pope was found in a single unit motorcycle fatal crash on County Road 47 in Malta Township.

“Looks like less than 10 miles away from where he was last seen Friday,” said Lt. Richard Chesar, commander of the OSHP Marietta Post. “Morgan County Sheriff’s Office found him today he was down over the embankment.”

The motorcycle appeared to have traveled westbound on the county road when it went off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

“There was no alcohol in or on the vehicle,” said Chesar. “Statements made said he was going to get pizza and beer.”

The accident report states Pope was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and that the crash remains under investigation.
