PARKERSBURG -- If Monday nights matchup between the Wirt County Tigers and the Parkersburg Catholic Crusaderettes was a prize fight, the referees would have stopped the bout in the opening minutes and called it a technical knockout.

Parkersburg Catholic scored 29 points in the opening quarter and 32 more in the second as they completely dominated the previously unbeaten Tigers 88-13.

At one point, the Crusaderettes scored an incredible 66 points in a row as they showed off their team depth to notch their fourth win in as many tries.

"It was just one of those nights where once we got it going it was a little tough to stop," said Parkersburg Catholic head coach Marty Vierheller. "They (Wirt County) had two excellent wins coming and we have the utmost respect for them."

It didn't take Parkerburg Catholic long at all to grab a big lead as junior all-state guard Madeline Huffman and her younger sister Leslie each canned 3s in the opening minutes and Emma Gardner converted an old-fashioned three-point play to give the Crusaderettes a 9-2 lead.

Emma Wyer's inside hoop cut the Tigers' deficit to five before Catholic put on a defensive clinic that stretched from the rest of the opening quaarter all the way into the third quarter.

PC forced Wirt into 15 turnovers in the opening period and 12 more in the second as they scored the final 52 points of the half to take a 61-4 lead at halftime.

Nine different girls scored at least two points in the opening half alone as the unselfish Crusaderettes showed off the depth of their young team.

"The thing that I was really proud of was our balance and our teamwork," said Vierheller, whose team totaled 19 assists in the game with eight different girls registering at least one. "We have some really good players here but they are not point conscious and they don't care about stats. They just want to go out and play, they want to execute and they want to win."

PC continued to add to its lead in the third period and tallied the first 14 points of the second half before Wyer's field goal snapped the skid.

Parkersburg Catholic shot a blistering 63.9 percent in the game (39-61), many of those coming in transition as it forced Wirt into 38 turnovers on the night.

Brunny led all scorers with 18 points while also contributing three assists and eight steals, while Leslie Huffman added 13 including three from behind the arc.

Lainie and Madison Ross added 12 and 10 points respectively while Madeline Huffman chipped in with nine points while leading the Crusdaerettes in assists with four and rebounds with five.

Next up for the Parkersburg Catholic is a show-down road game versus Wheeling Central Catholic at 2:30 p.m. in Wheeling.

"Central Catholic is as tough as nails and extremely well coached and we will have our hands full but thats why we scheduled them," said Vierheller. "We want to improve everyday and make ourselves as good as we can be come tournament time and these are the type of games that we need to play."
