Drug trafficker sentenced in overdose, dismemberment case

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — A convicted drug trafficker who helped dismember and bury the body of a West Virginia woman in Georgia following a fatal overdose was sentenced to 50 years in federal prison Thursday. Seddrick Banks, 30, of Cartersville, Georgia, was sentenced in federal court in Clarksburg for his July 2021 conviction for drug distribution resulting in death and other charges. Banks traveled from Georgia to West Virginia to sell fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine hydrochloride. Ray Herbert, a 1962 All-Star Game winning pitcher who threw batting practice for his hometown Detroit Tigers for decades after retiring, died peacefully in Plymouth, Michigan, five days after his 93rd birthday. Herbert started his big league career with Detroit in 1950 and pitched for four teams over 14 seasons. He was a 20-game winner for the White Sox in 1962, then led the American League with seven shutouts in 1963 with Chicago. Missing teenage snowmachiner found dead in Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A teenager missing in northwest Alaska for nearly 10 days was found dead Wednesday, Alaska State Troopers said. The body of Thomas Aki Pungalik Brown, 18, of Ambler was discovered near Cape Blossom, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) south of Kotzebue, Alaska State Troopers said. The search for Brown and his cousin, Josiah Ballot of Selawik, also 18, began Jan. 16 when the two did not arrive on a snowmachine in Noorvik that day as planned, Ballot’s mother, Tanya Ballot, told the Anchorage Daily News.
