Fourth of July events, fireworks planned around MOV

PARKERSBURG — America’s birthday will be celebrated around the Mid-Ohio Valley Tuesday with fireworks, fellowship and food.

* The annual Independence Day Parade and Celebration is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday in downtown Marietta.

The event is organized by AMVETS Post 1788 and will begin with lineup at 10 a.m at Fourth and Hart streets, with all units welcome.

The parade route will follow Fourth, Putnam and Front streets, ending at the Armory Square where a ceremony will be held. The speakers will be Mayor Josh Schlicher and local veteran Caleb Perkins.

* The Beverly Lions Club will sponsor its annual Antique Engine and Tractor Show from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fort Frye High School in Beverly.

Antique engine and tractor clubs and individuals are welcome to participate.

The Beverly Lions Club will serve food during the show and the fireworks. There will be drawings and raffle tickets for prizes. A flag raising will be held at 9 a.m., followed by a kids tractor pull at 11:30 a.m. and a tractor parade at 1 p.m. Food will be available all day, beginning with a pancake breakfast at the Beverly Fire Station from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The annual community fireworks display in Beverly will be presented at Cadet Field at Fort Frye High School, sponsored by American Legion Post 389, at 10 p.m. Tuesday.

* The annual American Legion Post 15 Carnival will run through Wednesday at City Park in Parkersburg offering games, rides and concessions.

The carnival hours are noon to 11 p.m. Tuesday and from 3 p.m. until closing on Wednesday.

As last year, the fireworks will be launched from Fort Boreman Park overlooking downtown Parkersburg at 10 p.m. Tuesday.

* Ripley’s Fourth of July festivities continue, starting at 7 a.m. Tuesday with the Calvary Pancake Breakfast, followed by the Little Patriot’s Hour, dedicated to children’s activities, at 9 a.m. The opening ceremony at 10 a.m. will be followed at 11:30 a.m. by the Firecracker Race by Main Street of Ripley.

America’s Largest Small Town Independence Day Parade starts at noon Tuesday and will travel from near Ripley High School along South Church Street to Main Street, wrapping up at West Main Street and Academy Drive. The grand marshals are the family of Mike Ruben, the director of the city’s Convention and Visitors Bureau who passed away in January.

Following the parade, musical acts will take to the Constellium Stage on the lawn of the courthouse: Kids on First and Kurt Shultis at 2 p.m.; Ultra Sound at 4 p.m.; Power of Love, the Huey Lewis and the News tribute band at 6 p.m.; and the U.S Air National Guard Band of the Northeast at 8 p.m.

Concluding Ripley’s Fourth of July celebration at 10 p.m. will be the fireworks finale sponsored by Dutch Miller of Ripley.
