County jail passes facilities inspection
Staff Reports
The Washington County Jail passed an inspection in June.
The facility passed a rigorous inspection by the United States Marshals Service, according to a Washington County Sheriff’s Office media release.
“The (Marshals’) inspections are done annually, due to the Washington County Jail being one of only two facilities in the State of Ohio that are utilized by the United States Marshals Service, Clarksburg, West Virginia Unit,” the release said. “The Washington County Jail has successfully passed every federal inspection since it opened in 2004.”
According to Assistant Jail Administrator Lieutenant Lori Greathhouse, the inspection was conducted on June 12.
“All WCSO (Washington County Sheriff’s Office) staff were extremely professional and provided access to all inspection areas required … All areas were clean and in order … All records appeared to be up to date … Additionally, the WCSO administration discussed plans for expanding and renovations of the WCSO jail facility, as well as ways that USMS (United States Marshals Service) and WCSO could increase partnerships that might be mutually beneficial,” Deputy United States Marshal Glenn Berg said in the release.
According to the release, Washington County Jail Administrator Major Kevin Carr is proud of the Washington County Jail.
“I am extremely proud of the progress and growth I have observed from our officers and staff during my tenure,” Carr said in the release. “Staffing levels have increased, and officers are better equipped. Due to a safer work environment, there has been a noticeable improvement in officer retention, resulting in a more experienced and professional work environment.”
The release said the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Jail Division maintains safety and security and the care, custody and control of the inmate population.
