Hollister named to state school board

COLUMBUS – Marietta resident Nancy Hollister, former governor, lieutenant governor, state representative, and mayor has been appointed to represent District 8 on the State Board of Education.
Governor John Kasich’s office announced the appointment Tuesday. Hollister will be replacing Dr. Robert E. McDonald Jr., who resigned after being appointed in March. McDonald, a lawyer from Steubenville, replaced Democrat Robert Hagan, of Youngstown, who resigned in 2015.
“I am very excited for this opportunity,” Hollister said Tuesday. “I am spending time right now listening, observing, learning and getting to know the other members.”
District 8 consists of 12 counties in eastern and southeastern Ohio and part of Vinton County. Hollister will assume the seat on May 3, 2016, and must run in November 2016 to retain the seat for the unexpired term ending December 31, 2018 She said that she does intend to file in July to run for the seat in November.
