A 2-year-old child died as a result of a house fire earlier this week on Tupper Street in Marietta.
The fire at 613 Tupper St. started just after 7 a.m. Wednesday. Officials said it was a fire with entrapment where firefighters were able to get four people out of the structure and transport them to local hospitals.
The Washington County Coroner’s Office confirmed the 2-year-old child died as a result of the fire.
One firefighter ended up injured during the event. He was treated and released. The conditions of the other occupants of the house were not readily available.
The Ohio State Fire Marshal Office is investigating the incident which is part of the normal procedure they have in investigations. Marietta fire officials referred all questions to the state fire marshal’s office.
Jarrod Clay, public information officer for the Ohio Department of Commerce and the State Fire Marshal’s Office, said Friday the State Fire Marshal’s Fire and Explosions Investigations Bureau (FEIB) is investigating and the cause remains under investigation.
Clay said they did not have any status on the other victims either.
Investigators are still investigating another fire from Wednesday for a garage structure at 27060 State Route 7 in Reno, local fire officials said. Two cats were reported killed in that fire, but no other injuries were reported.
“No foul play is suspected in either fire,” Clay said.
