The Washington County Veterans Service Commission is holding its annual Christmas Toy Program for veterans and their families in need.

In partnership with Dollar Tree and Operation Homefront, toys were collected at Dollar Tree stores and donated to Operation Homefront’s campaign and then distributed by the veterans commission office.

The toy collections were part of Operation Homefront’s national holiday campaign to ensure the children of veterans and military personnel receive Christmas presents this year.

Veterans can pick up toys for their children through Dec. 19 or until the toys have all been collected. Toys can be picked up at the Washington County Veterans Service Commission at 706 Pike St. in Marietta.

“This program is one of the most meaningful things we do each year,” said WCVSC Executive Director Darren Shearlock. “Dollar Tree and Operation Homefront play a major role in making this possible. Their commitment to supporting military and veteran families helps ensure that no child of a veteran in Washington County goes without a Christmas.”

The holiday campaign is Homefront’s yearly Holiday Toy Drive which focuses on helping military and veteran families who face challenges during Christmas.

The veterans commission is participating through distribution and ensuring the toys make it into the possession of those families in need this holiday season.

“We’re proud to serve the veterans of Washington County,” said Shearlock. “If you’re a veteran family in need, please come see us. We love our veterans and we want to make sure every child has a wonderful Christmas.”

The threeway partnership allows for all veteran families to participate in the giving season and provide toys for their children.

The veterans commission provides a wide range of services for veterans in need. For more information about the toy distribution, contact Shearlock at 740-568-9009 or visit www.wcvsc.com
