Marietta College offers admissions pathway to students from closing Lourdes University
From staff reports
Following the announced closure of Lourdes University in Sylvania, Marietta College announced it will offer a transfer pathway that includes admission criteria, advising and financial aid opportunities intended to help Lourdes students complete their degrees.
According to a release from Marietta College, Lourdes students with a cumulative undergraduate gpa of 2.75 or higher and a letter of good standing from their institution will be eligible for guaranteed admission. Admissions and academic teams will review transcripts with students to determine transferable credits and develop degree-completion plans.
“When a university closes, the greatest concern is for the students whose academic journeys suddenly feel uncertain,” said Heidi Terry, vice president for enrollment management at Marietta. “Our goal with this partnership is to provide Lourdes students with stability and advising so they can continue the progress they’ve already made.”
College officials said several academic programs at Lourdes align with Marietta’s offerings, including art, education, English, history, psychology, accounting, biology, computer science, cybersecurity, marketing and sport management. Marietta College offers about 45 academic programs.
Eligible Lourdes students may also qualify for the Marietta Promise Award, which covers remaining tuition and mandatory fees for Pell-eligible students after federal, state and institutional aid is applied. While the award is typically limited to first-time freshmen, Marietta officials said that requirement will be waived for qualifying Lourdes transfer students. The award may be renewed for up to eight semesters for students who remain eligible and in good academic standing.
“We recognize that this transition represents a significant moment for Lourdes University students,” said Suzanne Walker, provost at Marietta College. “Through this transfer pathway, we hope to provide an option so students can complete their degrees.”
According to a release from the college, transfer students would also have access to campus programs including athletics and student organizations.

Lourdes University announced its closure, effective at the end of this academic year, in February, citing mounting financial pressures, declining enrollment and rising costs.
