Mills hall suffers minor damage, classes move

(Photo by Brett Dunlap) A small fire was reported in Mills Hall at Marietta College over the weekend causing the building to be closed while inspections and necessary repairs can be completed.

Mills Hall on the Marietta College campus experienced a small fire Saturday, a statement from the college said.

The statement said the fire started in the boiler room and was detected and extinguished early by the college’s facilities team, Marietta College Police Department and emergency personnel.

Marietta Fire Chief C.W. Durham said his department responded to the call at 6:49 p.m. and there was minimal damage and no injuries.

The statement from the college said the building remains closed while inspections and necessary repairs are completed. Mills Hall is a five-story building that is home to the college’s psychology and communication departments, and the college said classes have been moved to new locations on campus such as Thomas Hall and the Legacy Library. The college said it hopes to reopen the building later this week and said the safety of their students, faculty and staff remains their top priority.

Starting at $2.99/week.
