I held my first knitting needles during lunch hours at my first job after business school in the offices of Union Carbide. Located too far down Route 7 to leave for lunch, my lady co-workers knitted while they ate, and were most helpful to get me started. Over 50 years of knitting, I have lost count of the number of sweaters, hats, baby blankets or skeins of yarn worked through these well-worn hands. Foodbank distributes food Wednesday The Southeast Ohio Foodbank, a program of Hocking Athens Perry Community Action, will be hosting a mobile food distribution at the Jaycee Estates, 1689 Colegate Drive, Marietta, at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. As I walked by Gilman’s prayer garden recently, I was caught up in the beauty blossoming there. The sky was a brilliant shade of blue; the grass was a lush green. There were splashes of bright color everywhere—the yellow of the daffodils, the pink of the hyacinth, the red and purple tulips, the pink and green of the rose of Sharon.
