Scott Smitley

Scott McAndrew Smitley, 43, of Marietta, passed away unexpectedly, Sept. 23, 2014.

He was born Sept. 9, 1971, in Marietta.

He was a 1989 graduate of Frontier High School. Scott accepted Christ in his teens, and recently was studying to become a lay minister. During his earlier years he was active in the Boy Scouts. He had earned many merit badges and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He had worked at Marietta Memorial Hospital, first as an orderly, and then became a Registered Nurse; a position he enjoyed and was proud of.

He is survived by his wife, companion, and best friend of 20+ years, April Burge Smitley, who he married on Oct. 1, 1994; his parents, Phil and Geneva Smitley; grandfather, Delmer Cameron; brothers, Shane (Jessica) Smitley and Shawn (Ayla) Smitley; his fur babies at home, Koda, Kassie, Koal, and Kaylie; sister-in-law, Vicki (Scott) Stair; and brother-in-law, Larry Holshu, Jr.; and several aunts, uncles, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Gloria and Ivan Smitley, Sr. and Violet Cameron; in-laws, Ernest and Alta Burge; and step-father-in-law, Hilton Surrena.

Services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, W.Va., with Pastor Ivan Smitley, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Newport Cemetery, Newport, Ohio. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today, and from 1-2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 28, at the funeral home.
