Curran
Ruth Aubin Curran passed away peacefully on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Elison of Marietta, where she has lived for the past five months. She was 95 years old.
Ruth Mary Aubin was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on March 12, 1930, the daughter of David and Elizabeth Aubin. She was the fourth of their eight children. Ruth often spoke with wonder of the stamina of her parents, raising, as she called herself and her siblings, “eight crazy kids.” But the Aubin gang had a wonderful childhood and their close connection continued through adulthood and into old age.
Ruth met the love of her life, Bill Curran, when she took a summer job as a waitress on Cape Cod, MA, where Bill was spending some Navy leave time.
The two married soon after meeting and moved to Marietta in 1953 when Bill finished his Navy stint. Later that same year, their son Geoff was born in Marietta.
After Bill’s untimely death in 1983, Ruth continued to live in Marietta, but in 1992, she decided to try life on Hilton Head Island, where the couple had a condo for some years; she later built a house there.
She lived on Hilton Head until her move to Florida in 2006, to be near a number of family members. Her brother Richard and his wife, Lynn, gave her an “official introduction” to Florida life.
Wherever Ruth lived, her home was always a center for warm and happy get-togethers of family and friends, both old and new. She prided herself on making a beautiful home wherever she lived, and her attention to her guests was legendary. She also enjoyed a good dinner out, saying happily, “Let’s get cleaned up and go out and have some fun.”
Ruth is survived by her son, Geoffrey Curran, her “just like a son,” Mike Gulliver, her brother Frank, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Curran, and siblings Claire, Dorothy, David, Rita, Richard, and Betty Ann.
Geoffrey would like to thank the extended family in Florida for “always making time to include Mom,” with special thanks to nieces Leslie and Diane and sister-in-law Lynn. He would also like to thank Tiffany Sergent with hospice for her comfort and care.
There will be no memorial service at this time. A contribution in Ruth’s memory may be made to the William E. Curran Drug and Alcohol Foundation, Marietta, Ohio.
