Day of Action supports vital nonprofit efforts

Approximately 150 volunteers at 16 sites joined in the United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley’s annual Day of Action last week. Completing service projects for local nonprofits, the volunteers spent the day on everything from building a walking path to organizing and pricing items for the ReStore.

It’s an effort many local businesses are eager to join.

“They put the date out and we all put it on our calendars immediately and sign up,” said Cassie Kerns, nurse recruiter with WVU Medicine Camden Clark. “It is a fun way to get out and be involved with our community that we serve every day. This is just a different way we can help serve.”

Among the locations where volunteers got some work done was the O’Neill Center, where cleanup and landscaping updates took up the day.

United Way Executive Director Stacy DeCicco called the event “a fantastic day of service that happens all across the Mid-Ohio Valley. We have people out on the ground providing service and support for our programs.”

In addition to sponsor WVU Medicine Camden Clark; Hino Motors; Ohio Valley Health Care; Integrated Health Centers of West Virginia; McDonough, Eddy, Poling and Baylous CPAs; Community Bank of Parkersburg; Huntington National Bank; and WesBanco sent out volunteer teams. Those volunteers not only leant a helping hand, they also got an inside look at how much work gets done by our region’s nonprofits — and how most of them accomplish all that with limited resources.

Given the degree to which those programs serve and support so many in our region, that work is essential. Thank you, to all who participated.

Starting at $3.70/week.
