The Constitution, use it or lose it!

There is something a foot in the Mid-Ohio Valley. People in Washington and Wood County are turning out for Democracy. Four members of Living Democracy: Engaging Citizens, a local citizens group, just finished teaching a four-week ILR (Learning in Retirement) class with 55 community members involved in learning about how the Constitution was written, how it has evolved and grown and what is happening to our Constitution today. Mr. John Fortney, I recently saw your letter to Marietta City Council and I just have to ask: were you our local weatherman? I distinctly remember a handsome weatherman by your name going to my kindergarten class to teach us about weather phenomena. Dear Editor: On Sept. 19, you ran a letter from a Mr. John Fortney regarding Marietta City Council’s desire to see something done about any more injection wells being forced on the citizens of Washington County. I want to clarify what is at stake in this discussion. Marietta City Council’s concern is — and always will be — the safety and well-being of the people who live here.
