Thank you to the community

The Kiwanis Club of Marietta thanks the community for supporting the 69th Annual Pancake Days, held February 7 & 8, 2025, at the Elizabeth Sugden Broughton Community Building. Pancake Days is the club’s largest fundraiser and all the proceeds go back into our community. We are pleased we reached our goal of between $20,000-25,000 profit this year. The Club members served over 1,000 people in just 1 ½ days. Kiwanis is global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. Conversation with a Ground Hog

When I was running on River Road (Devola) on February 2, I saw a ground hog. I approached him cautiously and in a friendly manner asked him what his name is. “Buckeye Chuck,” he replied. I queried again, “Are you related to Punxsutawney Phil?” “Just a distant relative,” he said coolly (for there was a chill in the morning air). Concern about Fort Frye school district decision-making

I have been following a concerning situation in the Fort Frye School District in which four exceptional and experienced teachers are being non-renewed to hire new and inexperienced teachers, apparently not due to performance issues but for other considerations that have not been communicated to the public. I have been hesitant to get involved in a large and growing community advocacy group that is aiming to change the direction of this decision, mainly because I am not a taxpayer in the district, nor do I have kids in it. I was looking forward to reading this week’s article from the Climate Corner series in the weekend edition of the Marietta Times. No Climate Corner?

I genuinely appreciated finding the MOV Climate Corner in my Marietta Times for the past several months. I looked for it on Saturday, January 25, and was disappointed that it wasn’t published in that issue. Sure, I can read it in the Parkersburg News and Sentinel, but I don’t subscribe to that newspaper. I do, however, subscribe to my hometown newspaper, The Marietta Times, and I would sure like to count on being able to read it regularly.
