Be part of the solution

I have volunteered at the Drop-In Center since its beginning. I am there one day a week and provide lunch one day a month. I am 91 years old and I have never felt unsafe. I would invite any council member (one at a time, we don’t have much space) to join us for lunch. The staff works very hard to direct and support clients to appropriate services to help problem-solve the many circumstances presented. The clients we see there point to a larger societal problem. Support for security

As a member of this City Council, I support the need for security at the homeless drop-in center to ensure the safety of both those utilizing the facility and the surrounding community. Security is crucial, and I believe we should explore ways to improve it. I also acknowledge that the business district may not be the most suitable location for the center. Again, it’s worthy of a discussion. However, I am deeply concerned about the direction of some of the conversations surrounding homelessness, particularly the suggestion of a camping ban.
