The Southern Agrarians

The Southern Agrarians were a group of twelve academics centered at Vanderbilt University in the early 20th century. Their manifesto, I’ll Take My Stand (1930), was a collection of essays on the southern way of life published in response to what they saw as the negative effects of northern industrialization. There were three common themes which appeared in these essays and I believe they could provide us some guidance as the rising generation seeks to put America back on track. Early in-person absentee voting begins May 14 for the June 11 Special Congressional General Election for Ohio’s 6th District. I urge voters to elect Michael L. Kripchak. Mr. Kripchak is an American patriot, a US Air Force veteran, a military scientist, an experienced entrepreneur, and the type of leader who can work across party lines to get things done for his constituents. A Special Community

On March 23, the 24th annual Empty Bowls fundraising event had its most successful year ever collecting funds for area food pantries to help alleviate food insecurities in the Mid-Ohio Valley. All net proceeds go to the pantries. The Empty Bowls Committee thanks all who made this year’s event a success by supplying goods and services as well as attending. We are especially grateful to the First United Methodist Church of Williamstown, West Virginia, who donated the lovely facility and the kitchen with staff. Zonta Club of MOV thanks you for supporting the Unique Boutique

The Zonta Club of the Mid-Ohio Valley would like to thank the community for all their support on our Spring Unique Boutique used clothing sale on April 5-6. This is our biggest fundraiser that we hold bi-annually and all the proceeds benefit our service projects. This includes our scholarships for non-traditional female students at Washington State College of Ohio. We are also supporting underserved women and young girls with our Delicates for Dignity Project. Our donations of feminine hygiene products, bras and new underwear have helped over ten organizations in our community since ...

Thank you from Marietta in Bloom

With help from a few community members, members of Marietta in Bloom, and residents from Oriana House, the garden bordering the bike path off of Sacra Via, was restored to its beauty after being underwater during both recent floods. Much needed trimming, raking, weeding, and mulching was completed by these volunteers. Sacra Via garden, as it is referred to by Marietta in Bloom, is a popular spot for those using the bike path. Thank you for the help from these volunteers. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the cooperation, caring, and hard work put in by these volunteers.

Marietta Earth Day Celebration a Success

On Saturday, April 20th, the 25th Anniversary of the Marietta Earth Day Celebration kicked off with blue skies and sunshine at Armory Square. We had a record breaking number of close to 500 attendees 225 of which were children! This event was sponsored by Peoples Bank and the Marietta Area Recycling Center. There were 26 local and regional organizations that participated with free arts and craft activities, hands-on displays and information to make us more aware of the environment.
