I Voted in July

I voted last week. Another strange election. This one in mid-summer. In person voting is August Eighth and I urge everyone to vote early. There will be only one polling place open for the entire city. If you haven’t been paying attention, this is where we are: The maga-publican state legislature realizes that much of its agenda is opposed by the citizens of Ohio. We citizens, by virtue of our state constitution, have the right to overturn their poor decisions. Vote “No” on Ohio Issue 1

The “minority” in Ohio want to tell the rest of us what to do. Vote “No” on Issue 1. The Ohio Republicans have redrawn our congressional districts so that they have a greater voice in our democracy than the Democrats. Issue 1 would give the minority even more power in Ohio. Issue 1 would make it harder for the majority to propose amendments to the Constitution of the State of Ohio. Please vote “No” on Issue 1. Carol Lazear Mitchell Marietta

His generous donation is greatly appreciated and the replacement of dead/dying plants with blooming roses makes this park area so much more attractive. Vote No on Issue 1

Ohio is having a special election on August 8 to vote on issue 1. I ask you to vote “NO” on Issue 1. Why? Issue 1 changes the requirements for Ohio citizens to pass a citizen-initiated constitutional amendment from 50% plus 1 to 60%. Issue 1 changes the petition signature requirement from 5% in 44 counties to 5% in all 88 counties. Finally, Issue 1 takes away the 10 additional days allowed to collect additional signatures if signatures are found insufficient. Issue 1 is a winner

The Ohio Constitution is the foundational document establishing our form of government and protecting our freedoms. It should not be altered for transient or specious reasons. Nor should it be subject to manipulation by dark moneyed interests, inside or outside the State. Changing our Constitution with only 50% voter approval leaves Ohio citizens vulnerable to those very interests. Issue 1 raises the required support for Constitutional amendments to 60% of the electorate, with signatures from all 88 counties.
