Vote no on Issue 1

Please mark August 8 on any calendar you use to vote NO on Issue 1. Instead of “majority vote plus one “ now used and used for over 100 years to change our state constitution / laws, our legislature wants to raise the majority to 60 percent. I like change and like to look for different ways to do things. Changing the way to amend the state constitution has never been a thought or a consideration for me. Proud to honor America with flag displays

The Kiwanis Club of Marietta was proud to honor America during this year’s July 4th celebrations. Club members placed over 500 US Flags on both sides of Third Street, from Washington to Marion Streets. The flags were donated to Kiwanis by Berkshire Hathaway Realtors and the Kiwanis Club thanks them for this generous donation. The Kiwanis Club of Marietta is over 100 years old and continues to support many local organizations and causes. Vote No on Issue 1

These politicians in Columbus claim that Issue 1 defends our Constitution from special interests, but that is an enormous lie. The changes that would come about if we pass Issue 1, such as raising the threshold to pass an amendment to 60%, requiring signatures to come from all 88 counties and eliminating the 10-day cure period, would make it easier for really rich people and giant, out of state special interests to buy our Constitution. Unnecessary killings

Here we go again regarding death and misfortune, in the beautiful city of Baltimore Maryland. This time two people were killed and three or more in critical condition. It seems to me unnecessary happening. If there were consequences for such uncalled for actions, this incident may not have taken place. Pope Frances defines democracy

Pope Francis said that “democracy requires participation and involvement on the part of all.” On August 8, Ohio will hold a special election that if approved would require 60% of voters to pass a new constitutional amendment, instead of a simple majority of 50% plus one. It would also add obstacles to getting an issue on the ballot. This does not sound like democracy. It sounds more like powerful institutions and political leaders trying to rig the system. Distractions and misinformation

The fate of the Titan submersible and its five passengers captivated the news cycle for a full week. This was a very tragic and avoidable accident, but that is not the issue. The real issue is how the American as well as global citizens were played. The “experts” trotted out never gave much of an indication of the true picture. The public at large was fed a steady diet of information about oxygen supply while keeping the story alive.
