All stories are local, former Editor/Publisher Emmett Smelser would remind me often as I wrote articles for The Times. I spent ages three through six on an army base in Kentucky as my father served a second hitch after the war. We would often spend Saturday mornings on the parade grounds watching and listening to military bands play Sousa music as they marched carrying flags waving in the breeze.
