Safe route to school

Hart Street beside 756 Greene is a “Safe Route to School” to the city’s largest elementary school. Is it any wonder less than 10 percent of our students pre-pandemic walk or ride bicycles to school? Why? Because in most areas of the city, it is too dangerous to walk even 2-10 blocks to school. Gun laws don’t solve the problem

It is a sad day in America when gun violence takes many lives. However, to continue to blame the implement used makes no sense. It is the fault of a person, not the weapon. Tighter gun legislation only makes it difficult for law abiding citizens to exercise their rights under the constitution. Law abiding Americans will be treated like criminals, who by the way are not influenced by gun laws. These persons will do what they want regardless of the law. Admit you’re wrong

Since the November election I have contacted Representative Bill Johnson’s office numerous times asking for evidence of widespread election fraud that he and many other Republicans have complained about. Mr Johnson voted to disenfranchise millions of voters following the insurrection at the Capital. His vote was precisely what the rioters had hoped their attack on the Capital would produce. Marietta River Trail needs improvements

The city of Marietta has the perfect opportunity to use some of the $9-10 million in pandemic/stimulus funding to improve pedestrian and bicyclists safety, particularly on Marietta River Trail. Early trail use during the pandemic double or tripled. The Multiuse trail provided safe access for walking, bicycling, grocery shopping, access to minimum wage jobs without previously required travel on Ohio 7 a cross I-77 entry points. Marietta traffic

My wife and I are daily walkers in Marietta and the disregard for pedestrians by drivers that we observe is shocking. Speed is usually well beyond the posted limits, extra loud mufflers (there’s an oxymoron) are common and there are very few drivers who yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk. While trying to use the signed crosswalk with flashing lights on Third Street between Tupper Park and Sacra Via, with my grandchildren at hand, many cars sped right through the crosswalk as though we didn’t exist. Local environmental impacts should be discussed

I am pleased to see that the Marietta Times is concerned about the environmental impact of energy sources, as demonstrated by their editorial which appeared in the March 11, 2021 edition. The editorial was referring to the Vineyard Wind Project off the coast of Massachusetts, which would involve the establishment of off-shore wind turbines to generate electricity for homes in New England. The Times was seeking as strict environmental review of this project as is done for projects involving extraction (fossil-fuel) industries. I wish that the Times were as concerned about ...
