Pair of golds for Marietta swimmer at Patriot Invite

PARKERSBURG – A pair of season best swims from junior Camryn Mclain paved the way to a team title for the Parkersburg South girls during Saturday’s Patriot Invitational at the Boys and Girls Club of Parkersburg.

Mclain joined Parkersburg’s Delaney Snodgrass as two of three female swimmers to tie for first at 40 points in the individual standings on the strength of a gold-medal performances in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly.

Teammates Paige Johnson and Vivian Grimm both captured one gold and one silver in their individual events and tied for fourth place at 37 points.

South finished with 555 points, while runner-up PHS scored 391.5 points.

Snodgrass competed on a pair of winning relays and also won the 200 individual medley and the 100 freestyle. Fellow Big Red teammate Lily Jones was a member of two winnings relays and placed runner-up in the 100 butterfly.

Marietta and Warren were also represented in the six-team field. For the Warriors, Grace Francis established a season best while finishing second in the breaststroke. She also took third in the 50 freestyle. Teammate Heidi Mulligan set a personal best after placing fourth in the 50 freestyle and a season best with her fourth-place effort in the 100 backstroke.

For Marietta, Nora Vigneron supplied a second-place time in the 100 backstroke and a fourth place in the 200 individual medley. Tigers’ Kipp McNeal was third in the 100 breaststroke.

On the boys side, Robert C. Byrd claimed the team title with 358.5 points, while South followed in second place at 313 points. Parkersburg took third at 273.5.

Big Red sophomore Levi Morr joined Marietta’s Oliver Smith as dual 40-point scorers. Morr was a part of two winning relays and won outright the 50 freestyle with a season best time. He also captured the 100 backstroke.

Morr’s teammate, Brayden Lott won a pair of individual silvers in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

South’s Remington Blair turned in a pair of personal best times while placing third in both the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Isaac Blair also established a personal best while taking second in the 100 breaststroke.Patriots’ Shawn Thornhill swam a leg on the winning 200 freestyle relay and also won the 100 breaststroke.

Smith led the charge for Marietta by winning both the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle. Fellow Tiger Liam Scott set a season best while placing third in the 100 backstroke.

Warren accounted for two individual first-place finishes with John Randall in the 50 freestyle and Eli Watkins in the 500 freestyle. Watkins also tied for third in the 100 butterfly.
