Tigers knock off Bulldogs in district opener

THE PLAINS — With Thursday’s 5-3 win over Athens in the Division III district tournament, Marietta softball is back on the map in Southeast Ohio. “We put everybody on notice in our district,” said MHS head coach Jon Pollard. Brian Hayhurst, of Parkersburg, recorded his sixth ever hole-in-one Thursday at the Golf Club of West Virginia. Hayhurst aced hole No. 18 with his pitching wedge. The shot was witnessed by Sam Tanner, Rodney Drain and Greg Wilson.
