WCCC students of the months for December

Brayden Meeks
The Washington County Career Center honors its December Students of the Month, Mya Miller and Brayden Meeks. Mya and Brayden are first cousins and the committee selected them for this honor without knowing beforehand.
Mya Miller is a Warren senior enrolled in the Digital Marketing program, and she is the daughter of Bill and Stacy Miller of Marietta.
Miller is a member of the Career Center’s Business Professionals of America (BPA) youth organization (Co-President), the National Technical Honor Society (President), Student Council, Students Solving Problems (Vice President), and serves as the class secretary of her technical program. Last school year, Mya participated at the regional level for BPA in the category of extemporaneous speech. This school year, she placed first for fundamental spreadsheet applications, second for database applications, and will move on to compete at the state level in February. She has received awards for the Career Center’s Principal List and Honor Roll.
As a student ambassador, she is responsible for acting as a liaison between the Career Center and Warren High School. In addition, she is gaining leadership skills by promoting the Career Center during its recruitment process as well as giving tours and guidance at scheduled events and with incoming visitors. At Warren High School, she actively participates in softball. In her technical program, Miller has earned or may earn industry-recognized credentials and college credit for Microsoft Office Specialist: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word. Academically, she is taking college credit courses for American National Government, Economics, English Composition, Statistics, and Technical Writing. Mya is receiving a technical focus and learning skills for business administration marketing, business foundations, digital marketing & management, and marketing principles.
Miller is an avid volunteer for multiple causes. Through Building Bridges to Careers, she attended the Youth-to-Youth Conference on drug prevention at Ohio Dominican University, participated in Adopt-A-Highway and the Leadership Excellence Program, and volunteered for Camp Echo, which is for intellectual and developmental individuals of the Wood County Society. Digital Marketing instructor, Lynette Snyder, commented, “Mya is committed to maintaining high grades and outstanding attendance. Her eagerness to learn outside the classroom sets her apart. She seeks opportunities for internships and engages in enriching workshops. As a class officer and student ambassador, she’s not just involved but a driving force at both Warren High School and the Career Center.”

Mya is employed with Warren’s IGA as a grocer and interns at The Amputee Center as a marketer. Upon graduation, she plans to attend college to obtain a degree in marketing.
Brayden Meeks is a Marietta senior enrolled in the Welding program, and he is the son of Todd and Erin Meeks of Reno.
Meeks is a member of the Career Center’s SkillsUSA youth organization, the National Technical Honor Society, and is the class treasurer for his technical program. He has received awards for the Career Center’s Principal List and Honor Roll. He is an Eagle Scout and loves to hunt. Through College Credit Plus, Brayden earned both high school and college credit for statistics. He is taking course offerings and learning skills for flux cored arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, and shielded metal arc welding. In his technical program, he has earned industry-recognized credentials for American Welding Society and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10-hour training. Welding instructor, Tyler Stacy, commented, “Brayden is very willing and open to helping other students. This past summer, he earned a MIG welding certification through the Career Center’s adult technical training program.”
Brayden is employed through the Career Center’s Early Placement program at Pioneer Group as a welder and laborer. He plans to enter directly into the workforce by joining the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #168.
