Four MOV schools awaiting decision on sports’ future

Four Mid-Ohio Valley high schools will find out their fate on Saturday if they will be playing in the West Virginia high school state football playoffs on Sunday when the W.Va Department of Education School Alert System Saturday Education map is released. Parkersburg High (Wood), Williamstown (Wood), Ripley (Jackson), and St. Marys (Pleasants) have a chance of not playing in the first round of the playoffs if the counties’ positivity rate is above five percent. MHS student tests positive for coronavirus

Marietta High School parents were informed today that a case of coronavirus has been confirmed within the student population. This is the first student, following four confirmed staff members, the city school district has announced this school year. "School officials are working with public health professionals at the Marietta-Belpre Health Department with contact tracing," read the statement from Superintendent Will Hampton. According to state data, this is the 22nd child within Washington County to have a case of the virus.

Elementary staff confirmed coronavirus case

Marietta City Schools announced today another staff case of coronavirus. Superintendent Will Hampton informed parents in a letter that was subsequently shared to Washington Elementary School's social media. School officials are working with the Marietta-Belpre Health Department to complete contact tracing.

Noble County announces first coronavirus deaths

Though state data today from the Ohio Department of Health does not reflect it, Noble County announced it has confirmed the county's first two resident deaths from coronavirus. "Both individuals recently passed away on the same date and within hours of each other," read the county health department's release. "The first passing occurred at our local nursing home. Waterford student confirmed coronavirus case

Wolf Creek Local Schools confirmed today that a high school student has tested positive for coronavirus. Superintendent Doug Baldwin announced in a release that the Washington County Health Department has been notified and close contacts have also been notified. "The classrooms have been thoroughly disinfected as well as restrooms and common areas," he wrote. "Please be assured that Wolf Creek Local Schools are working with the Washington County Health Department to take all necessary precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and community." Wood County stays on orange

PARKERSBURG — Wood County remains orange on West Virginia’s daily COVID-19 county alert system map, a step below the most serious classification of red, which indicates the highest level of spread of the novel coronavirus. From Wednesday to Sunday, the county had recorded double-digit confirmed coronavirus cases, with 22 coming on Sunday.
