John Randall, 17, is enjoying his senior year at Warren High School and has the next few years of his life planned upon graduation in the spring.
Born in Winooski, Vt., Randall spent his childhood moving around the country to states like Iowa and Kentucky before coming to the Mid-Ohio Valley in his elementary years. He spent most of his elementary years in Parkersburg before his family moved to the Ohio side of the river during his fourth grade year.
“I went to a couple different places for about a year at a time because my dad’s a doctor, an anesthesiologist so after med school he moved around a lot,” said Randall.
Randall is the third oldest out of eight kids who are about two years apart. He said he usually tells people he’s from Ohio because that’s where he’s been the longest.
As a senior in high school, Randall said he has a lot of flexibility with his schedule now because he’s been taking classes at Washington State College of Ohio.

“I’m in dual-enrollment so I’m getting my associate’s right now,” he said. “I feel like I have a ton of freedom because I don’t go to back to back class periods.”
He said he’s really enjoying the college courses which are scheduled for a few hours in the afternoon throughout his week. The courses focus on science and biology which he said will help him pursue his goal of becoming a doctor one day.
“Whenever I’d go to the hospital with my dad, it just feels right. This is where I want to work and it feels like it’s the kind of environment I’d want to be in,” said Randall.
He said his dad has always been a huge inspiration for him and ever since he was young he wanted to pursue something in the medical field. He said he’s not sure which schools he will end up applying to.
“I’m just trying to get the good grades now and get the score on my standardized tests and try to get as many options as I can,” he said.

Randall isn’t involved in any school organizations but he has been a member of the Warren High School soccer team. He’s been playing soccer for a total of 10 years between Warren and when he was living in Parkersburg.
He said his family has always been really involved in soccer and he started playing in a recreational league when he lived in Parkersburg.
“My favorite part is definitely the team and the people that I’m surrounded with,” he said. “Even if I’m on the bench and not playing I could be having the best time in the world with the guys.”
Randall also started competing in swimming his freshman year after being introduced to the sport by his brother. He said he’d join his brother while he trained and ended up enjoying it and decided to join the team.
“I’m really excited for swim to start and it’s just a really fun time of year,” he said, adding the season begins in the spring.

While managing his busy school schedule with sports, Randall said he is also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After waking up early to work out at the gym he attends a seminary every morning.
“When I graduate I plan on going on a mission trip and I’ll get selected for a certain spot in the world,” he said.
Randall said his parents have been pretty involved in the church and they’re originally from Utah. After the two-year mission trip he plans to head straight into college.
He lives a busy life with classes, sports, and church but he said those things are enjoyable for him so it doesn’t feel like things he has to do.
“I like to hangout with my friends a lot,” he said. “I think lifting in the mornings is fun and soccer is fun but hanging out with my friends is the main thing I do in my spare time.”
Randall said he’s excited to see how the rest of the soccer season goes because this is the first year the team made it past the first round. He said he’s hopeful they’ll make it to the semifinals.
“We have a really strong team this year and I think we’ll go all the way,” said Randall. “I think out of all the career achievement moments, I think potentially this one might be the best.”
