35th Annual WMOA Christmas Zoo

The WMOA Christmas Zoo, started in 1990 by former owner Big John Wharff, was inspired by big city live broadcasts like Macy’s in New York and Lazarus in Columbus. The goal was to collect stuffed animals for local charities, with longtime WMOA morning host Dick Guyer as the first “Zookeeper.” Over the years, Dan Castelli (1995-2006), now Kyle Wenzel, and Ben Marshall (2007-present), have carried on the Zoo’s hybrid mission of collecting animals and monetary donations. Zonta Club of MOV says Thank You

The Zonta Club of the MOV would like to thank the community for their outstanding support of our recent bi-annual clothing sale the Unique Boutique. This sale has been happening in Marietta for approximately 40 years or more. This is one of our biggest fundraisers and all the proceeds benefit our service projects. Mainly our scholarship program at Washington State College of Ohio. These scholarships are given out in April to non-traditional female students who are looking to further their education and make a better life for themselves and their families. Bells Toll

The recent election shocked Democrats across the nation. Since then, I’ve heard two people say words which indicated this is the end of the Democratic Party. They are wrong. This recent win by the MAGA groups’ candidates all over the country means the end of the Republican Party. The MAGA cheers, I heard down the road were really the bells tolling for the Republican Party, now completely drowned by those they allowed conspiratorial power in their club. Local veteran thanks community

Many of you either know me or know of me as the guitar guy who performs the marketing for a local pizza company on the south side of Parkersburg. Putnam Street

I feel it is a real disgrace to let the bricks on Putnam Street get so bad, you feel that you are driving on a road with rocks on the surface. You bounce all over when driving on that road. It used to be every so often they would take the bricks up, put a level base in, then put the bricks back down. Though, I am sure they will tell you they don’t have the money to fix the road.

Editor’s note: A reminder to writers of letters to the editor — As has been the case for many election cycles, Oct. 19-20 marked the cutoff for our publication of political letters.
