Face the community

I appreciate the effort that the Memorial Health System is exerting to provide New Matamoras with a satellite clinic at least once a week with our NP Kendal Neill traveling here. But I still must argue that her presence needs to be in this community more than that. I want to comment on some statements that were made by MHS, which were printed in the headline article of April 18 in the Marietta Times that concerned the future of our health care clinic here. The Village Council of Matamoras has issued a formal request for a public meeting to be attended by the CEO of MHS, Scott ...

Save the planet

It is aggravating that we have “so called news networks” spewing lies but now I have to be bombarded by the ads on the local news and on the few games I play on the computer. But according to the Center for Responsive Politics, One Nation America works to avoid disclosing its funding. This is the group that is posting constantly that West Virginia will loose 100,000 jobs because of the legislature IRA which was passed and signed by President Joe Biden. They are asking people to contact Senator Joe Manchin to repeal The Inflation Reduction Act. Do people not know that there ...

Personal finance

It is a pleasure to learn that 16 states have instituted a requirement for graduation from high school one class in personal finances. The mission statement reads: “requiring a personal finance course” Mission 2030: All students by 2030 will take a one-semester Personal Finance course before they graduate from high school.” At least 16 States have been offering personal finance classes. It is a noble goal. It would be ever so nice if we could imbue personal responsibility into our population as well. In our household, acquainting our children with budget started before they ...

Memorial Health Systems have forgotten Matamoras community

I would like to express some concerns that I have. I live in New Matamoras and truly feel like Memorial Health Systems of Marietta has either forgotten about the people in this part of Washington County or just totally don’t care about us and our medical needs. The MHS is trying to move our doctor’s office which will leave us without a local medical facility. There has been a medical facility in our village since 1865. We have many people here that can’t drive and so they walk to the clinic. MHS tells us in the letter sent to each client that it should not be a problem — ...

The love of a special group of people

On April 15, the 23rd annual Empty Bowls fundraising luncheon raised more than $6,500 for area food pantries to help alleviate food insecurities in the Mid-Ohio Valley. The Empty Bowls Committee would like to thank all those who made this year’s event a success. A great number of people and area businesses contributed to making this event successful. The committee would specifically like to thank all the restaurants in the area that donated soup to the cause as well as Panera Bread that donated all the bread. The restaurants include Boathouse BBQ, The Butchery of Marietta, ...

Bean will work for the people

It’s time to go to the ballot box, May 2nd, 2023; our primary election. Voters, you have the perfect candidate for Municipal Judge and the one who can carry onto the ballot in November; our General Election. Why is Amy Bean the perfect candidate? She works in the Municipal Court and has the experience; no moving for her as she is already there and ready to continue working for us. Amy is an effective attorney with 20 years of legal experience, both Criminal and Civil and extensive courtroom experience. Isn’t that a record to be challenged? Doesn’t that make for the right ...
