Recently, Washington State Community College was alerted by the Marietta Police Department of a possible bomb on the second floor of the Arts and Sciences building. As president of WSCC, it was a phone call I hoped to never receive and it was an enormous relief when we got word that all campus buildings were secure and there was no evidence of any explosive devices. I am grateful to the Marietta Police Department, the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol for the prompt response to the situation and their swift work in giving us the all-clear. ...

Baffling people with BS is a job that the media and our government is very good at. They hop on a soapbox and tell you how to think after a tragedy and then who, or what to blame. The sad thing is most people buy the BS. We have seen evidence of this within the pages of this very paper. The facts don’t back up the rhetoric. There were 24,292 gun deaths in the U.S. in 2020 according to the CDC. Of those, 54% were suicides. Fifty-four percent equals roughly 12,500. That leaves us with 24,292-12,500=11,792.
