CTC payments helping local families

The Advanced Child Tax Credit (CTC), enacted this past year under the American Rescue Plan, has had an incredible impact on families across our area. The Advanced CTC allowed families to receive half of their Child Tax Credit payments in monthly installments throughout 2021. This meant families received $300 per child age 5 and under or $250 per child age 6-17 each month. As the outreach worker for HAPCAP, I worked with families to help them enroll in the Advanced CTC using the website GetCTC.org. St. John Central 2021 Gala Thank You

On Nov. 20, 2021, the St. John Central Home and School Association welcomed guests for our third St. John Central Gala. The proceeds from the Gala support the ongoing operation of St. John Central School, located in Churchtown, Ohio. Guests this year enjoyed appetizers and entrees by Big Food, Little Kitchen and extravagant desserts provided by St. John Central parents and Lisa’s Sweet Stop of Beverly, Ohio. MARC thanks community for support

The Marietta Area Recycling Center is thankful to the community for all of its support in 2021. Your help guided us to a full re-opening in June to our 24 hour/7 day a week schedule! Although the first quarter of the year our activity was throttled back to being open part time, our activities started to pick up in April, when we kicked off the Marietta Earth Day Celebration with two new recycling events, one for Hard to Recycle Materials and the other, Recycling Day for Children. Recent Tornadoes bring climate change to the forefront

While our immediate attention should be directed at relief efforts for the thousands of people who have lost loved ones, are injured, homeless, and without jobs and their personal possessions, we should still reflect upon the significance of these powerful storms that devastated parts of Arkansas, Illinois, and Kentucky in this month of December. These storms bring to vivid relief the reality that the effects of climate change are already upon us.
