Organizers of the Miracle League of the Mid-Ohio Valley are aiming for some lofty goals, both for their organization and the communities it serves. With the determination to demonstrate baseball is for everyone, the league put on a second demonstration game over the weekend in Parkersburg’s City Park. Measles outbreak isn’t over

Though an outbreak in Ohio appears to have subsided since the spring, outbreaks of measles are still popping up all over the country. The summer break does not seem to have slowed the spread of this dangerous disease. Canada and Mexico are experiencing thousands of cases (and some deaths), too. Most recently, Kentucky has announced its first measles outbreak of the year, with four cases in Fayette and Woodford counties. That brings the total in Kentucky to seven. The first Fourth of July in Marietta had a special meaning not only because it came just a dozen years after the birth of the nation, but it also occurred at the conclusion of the first meeting of the directors of the Ohio Company who had worked to set up a form of government in the Northwest Territory. The meeting was held near the confluence of the Ohio and Muskingum rivers. The Warren Township trailer has been vandalized for a second time and is at risk for being removed once again. The first time was due to contamination from someone’s bathroom remodeling. Pieces of the bathtub, rotten flooring, and pieces of concrete were placed in the trailer, which contaminated the contents of the trailer. This morning, I was there when the Rumpke representative was there to haul the trailer away for shipment to Columbus where items would be sorted and recycled. I urge all those in government to really look at their role in the events that are happening since Jan. 20, 2024. Those in D.C. need to get some spines, brains and hearts to begin to work for the people of WV and America. Those in Charleston and Columbus need to stop using our tax money to pay for their private schools, wasting money on plaques for each classroom, and providing protection for all workers, including mine workers.
