Prep football roundup: Morgan gets big win over John Glenn

McCONNELSVILLE — Tanner Bankes ran for a pair of touchdowns and Hayden Bankes came down with two four-quarter interceptions to help give Morgan a 21-14 win over John Glenn Friday.

Tanner Bankes’ second TD was 1-yarder in the final minutes of the fourth quarter to put the Raiders (5-2) up seven.

The Muskies (3-4) drove to Morgan’s side of the field, but a deep pass by Owen Edwards was picked off by Hayden Bankes with 16 seconds left to secure the Raiders’ first victory against JGHS since 2004.

Morgan, which heads to Sheridan next week, led 14-0 after Haiden Pauley’s 26-yard touchdown pass to Arlis Ponchak.

John Glenn got on the board in the second quarter via a 6-yard TD strike from Edwards to Ryder Pennington. It was 14-7 at halftime.

The Muskies tied it at 14-all with 10:56 left in the game on Dominic Bates’ 5-yard rushing score.

Morgan, though, got the last laugh thanks to the game-winning TD by Tanner Bankes, who finished with 216 yards on 25 carries. Pauley was 10 for 12 passing for 115 yards. Casen Foley was his top target with four catches for 61 yards.

Conotton Valley 54, Frontier 34

BOWERSTON, Ohio — Austyn Kephart found the end zone four times for Frontier, but the Cougars couldn’t stop Conotton Valley’s offensive attack in Friday’s 54-34 loss.

Gavin Haney carried 15 times for 200 yards and matched Kephart’s TD total. CVHS quarterback Caden Leggett went 16 for 34 for 271 yards with TDs to Haney, Camden Wright and RJ Higgenbotham. Higgenbotham’s TD catch was a 99-yarder with 47 seconds left in the first half, putting Frontier down 28-14 at the break.

Leggett was intercepted twice, once apiece by Brayden Boron and Hunter Taylor.

The Cougars, who fell to 2-5 and play host to Magnolia next week, got within eight on Kephart’s fourth TD of the day, a 1-yard run which occurred at the 8:54 mark in the fourth, but Haney scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and Wright had a 1-yard scoring rush in the final period to close it out.

Caleb Kirkpatrick, who had a 48-yard touchdown run in the fourth, led the Cougars with 72 yards on 15 carries. Aaden Bills completed 17 of 28 passes for 277 yards and two TDs, both to Kephart, who had seven catches for 98 yards. Avery Powell led all receivers with 117 yards on four receptions.
