Singer-songwriters to discuss original musical

Two writers of a local musical that is part of the America 250th celebration will be the speakers at noon Thursday at the Southeast Ohio History Center Lyceum Luncheon Speaker Series at 24 West State St. in Athens.

Singer-songwriters Larry Groce and Todd Burge wrote their original “One Vote! – the Musical” based on the founders of Marietta, Ohio and Ohio University between 1786 and 1820.

Burge is affiliated with Peoples Bank Theatre and the Esbenshade Series at Marietta College. Groce is co-founder of National Public Radio program Mountain Stage in Charleston, W.Va., where Burge has appeared multiple times.

“One Vote” opens 7 p.m. July 17 at the Hermann Fine Arts Center at Marietta College. Other shows are scheduled at 7 p.m. July 18, July 24 and July 25 and 2:30 p.m. July 19 and July 26. Chicken and ham dinner June 24

St. Bernard’s Catholic Church Parish will hold its June Social with a chicken and ham dinner from 4-7 p.m. June 24, at the social hall, 307 7th St., Beverly. An adult meal is $15 and a child meal is $6 for ages 10 and under. Take-out meals are available. A meal includes chicken, ham, side dishes, dessert and beverages. Children’s games and bingo begin at 5 p.m. A raffle is also being held for many items, including a large Ohio State University-themed quilt. Farmers Castle Museum open house Saturday

The Farmers Castle Museum, operated by the Belpre Historical Society, will have an open house from 1-4 p.m. Saturday in recognition of Juneteenth. The Underground Railroad in Southeastern Ohio, a permanent exhibit that details the rise of the freedom movement along the Ohio River shoreline of Washington County in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, will be featured. Lasagna dinner June 26

Coin Club summer show July 25

The Parkersburg Coin Club is sponsoring its 4th annual summer coin show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 25, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 312 Franklin St., Marietta, during Harmar Days. Admission is free. Dealers will be available to buy, sell or trade collectible coins. An hourly door prize will be awarded for those in attendance. Ballroom dancing classes weekly

Weekly ballroom dancing classes will be held 7-10 p.m. the second, third and fourth Saturdays of the month at Miller Prosthetics, 2311 Ohio Ave., Parkersburg. Dress is casual. Cost is a $5 per person donation with singles and couples welcome.

Center hosts dementia support group

A dementia support group is held at the O’Neill Center on the first Friday of each month at 10 a.m. This group is intended to assist families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias by helping them build a strong support system, openly discuss their challenges and find practical solutions. Guidance on coping strategies is also provided in addition to community resource connections. This support group is offered in partnership with Right at Home and Cawley Hospice.
