Ohio state track meet officially underway

COLUMBUS — Shenandoah’s Braxton Barnett secured All-Ohio honors in one event and advanced to the finals in two other events during day one of the OHSAA state track meet Thursday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Barnett cleared 6 feet, 2 inches in the high jump to place fourth and earn a spot on the podium. Barnett also finished first in the prelims for both the 110 and 300 hurdles. He crossed in 14.43 seconds in the 110 and 37.70 seconds in the 300. He’s the favorite to win both events, and is also scheduled to compete in the long jump on Friday. CHILLICOTHE — Warren was six outs away from pulling off a major upset and keeping its epic postseason run alive. The Warriors put up a five-spot in the top of the fifth inning to take a 5-4 lead over Bishop Watterson, the second-ranked team in all of Division III. After Carter Strong pitched a clean bottom half, Warren could feel the upset brewing.
