RENO — More than 30 Santa Clauses, most identical to each other, decorate a neighborhood in Reno this holiday season.
The 8-foot-tall, inflatable Santas appear on Cornerstone Drive and some of its surrounding streets, waving and holding a green sack that has “Merry Christmas” and snowflakes on it in white.
Jessica Doyle has lived on Cornerstone Drive for 10 years, with her sister Jennifer White about half a mile away. The idea for decorating the neighborhood with Santas came from Doyle, White said.
“Our street has a Facebook page, and I saw a neighborhood somewhere in the country doing that,” Doyle said.
She posted on the neighborhood Facebook page about the Santa idea and said, “‘Who’s in?’ …. And all of a sudden our neighborhood is full of Santas,” Doyle said.

There are 34 or 35 Santas on Cornerstone Drive and surrounding streets, according to Doyle.
“For the most part, they’re all the same one, which makes it kind of funny,” she said. “I think the goal is kind of for everybody to have the same one as (people) drive up the street.”
White said she is not surprised by the response of the people in the neighborhood participating.
“We have a great neighborhood,” White said.
There are a lot of residents with children and grandchildren and she thinks that is one of the reasons why people have participated.

“It brought everybody together, too,” Doyle said of the Santas.
The initiative is drawing interest from people outside the neighborhood, White said.
“They’re just amazed at all our Santas… our kids have told everyone about it too,” she said. “They’re excited about the Santas.”
Doyle said she has seen random videos people have taken of the Santas on Facebook.
“It’s kind of funny,” White said. “People are driving through and wondering what’s happening” when they see all the Santas.
Doyle said she even heard about people talking about the Santas at her dentist’s office and at her children’s pediatrician’s office.
Both Doyle and White said there are already plans for the neighborhood to have the Santas next year as well.
“I think some people are already talking about more,” White said. “It’s a fun way to bring the community together … It provides joy for everyone.”
