Community support helps BrAva Mom Prom make difference

What began as an effort to honor two local girls who faced childhood cancer by raising money to support local families and research has turned into a community-wide drive that has donated more than $735,000 over the years.

BrAva is a nonprofit organization many will recognize because of the annual BrAva Mom Prom, which this year raised another $74,000 for childhood cancer awareness and research.

“Events like BrAva Mom Prom are a powerful reminder that when communities come together with this much energy and heart, it directly fuels that research and progress families are counting on,” said Caira Turner, CureSearch associate director for community engagement. “It isn’t just a night of fun; it’s a celebration of community, compassion and purpose. This kind of support is what drives hope forward for children battling cancer.”

More than 80 community partners pitched in to sponsor the event, with gold sponsor the Fraternal Order of Eagles 3665 in Beverly leading the way.

Organizers pour their time and effort into the event, sponsors lend their support and more than 500 women used a fun night out to support the fight against a childhood monster that is all too real.

“The fact that we were able to raise so much (more than $18,000) through the raffle alone is a reflection of the steadfast support from our community,” committee member Rose Nicholson said. “We’re grateful and already looking forward to next year.”

Of course, the fight goes on year-round, even if there is such an important event to anticipate. No doubt the community will continue its staunch support of this wonderful organization and event — supporting more families and getting us even closer to a cure.

Starting at $2.99/week.
