Reminiscence of Soviet communism

Soon after the end of World War II, as we were drifting from one encampment to the next, we encountered a lot of falsehood. One of which was involving Soviet Communist soldiers as they were repatriating Russian refugees. As soldiers proceeded with their task, they were telling the refugees how great everything was in Russia. They coaxed the Russian refugees as to how good things were in Russia. They told the people that they would be welcomed with open arms. They would behold the great progress in Russia. They would be welcomed by Mother Russia and live with want for nothing. Many ...

Join me in voting for Warden for Sheriff

To the Citizens of Washington County: My name is LeeAnn Price. I moved to Washington County over 50 years ago and I consider this my home. My husband and I are active members of the community and we raised both of our kids in the Fort Frye School District. We love the community we live in and serve. I am writing to you today to show my support for Mark Warden as Sheriff. Marietta Symphony orchestra thanks the community

The Marietta Symphony Orchestra would like to thank our local patrons and donors for their support during the 2023 concert year. Grants from the Ohio Arts Council, the Marietta Community Foundation and the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation as well as generous donations from community members made it possible for the Symphony to bring you performances for Independence Day in July and then again for a special Christmas performance in December. The Christmas concert was followed by a special performance where young musicians in area schools were provided the opportunity to showcase ...

Jobs

Dear Editor, Marietta Times syndicated columnist Erick Erickson’s January 8th piece says the public “remembers having jobs” (under Donald Trump). I challenge the Marietta Times to do some research and write a factual article regarding job creation statistics during the past seven years. I would also recommend the Times consider paying only for intellectually honest columnists and political cartoonists to promote reasonable and constructive debate.

Your tax money

OK — Who gave us the right or obligation to police shipping channels a half a world away? Who is paying for the USA policing action over there? UN? I don’t think so. USA taxpayer? No doubt! And when our military spends money it is in great big gobs at a time. The Pentagon would spend at least a million dollars just to sneeze. I’m sure we’ve spent many millions on this little policing action in the middle east already. Is this the way you want your tax money spent? Have we or will we benefit from this expenditure? Methinks not. Spending millions, probably billions of our ...

What’s up with the price of gas?

Just a few days before visions of sugar plums danced in our heads, the visions of a TWO DIMES AND A PENNY per gallon gasoline price increase danced in front of us with no graduation or warning. Referring to $278.9 to $299.9 per gallon overnight. WHAT IN THE NAME OF RUDOLPH’S RED NOSE IS GOING ON IN MARIETTA? ‘Tis the season of giving, but the price gouging at the pump, especially on holidays, makes it seem more like the season of taking. The small reprieve we enjoyed for the last few weeks is but a faded memory. A bang of a price increase on July 4th, a turkey killing ...
