National nightmare is over

Our national nightmare is over. Our conservative-leaning Supreme Court has affirmed our Democracy by refusing to overturn our election results. The election was not “rigged” and we can now work to heal rather than to tear our country apart. Perhaps Congress can again learn to work together as Americans doing the work of the people. At the top of the Biden/Harris agenda is the COVID-19 pandemic. Science has produced several vaccines but it will take at least 6 months to get everyone immunized. There are so many thanks that need to be expressed. I don’t know where to begin. The holidays are here and there is so much to be said to all of you. You are so generous with your contributions to the Beverly Waterford Food Pantry. Your donations are overwhelming. We should not tolerate corruption

If you have been paying attention to Ohio news lately, you are no doubt familiar with that terrible energy bill known as HB 6 that our legislature passed in 2019. House Bill 6 should have raised a lot of red flags. Why were its supporters spending unprecedented amounts of money? Where were the figures documenting the alleged need for $1.3 billion in subsidies? Words matter

Memo to Myself: If I want to enter into a meaningful conversation about racism and the experiences of my sisters and brothers of color, I need to avoid any use of the phrase “All Lives Matter” or any particular version of it. Words matter. Words can heal or words can hurt. I may state what I believe is true, but if I’m not caring and thoughtful I can either diminish or dismiss what is true for you. Homelessness

What does the word “homelessness” mean? In the most basic terms, homelessness is to be without a place to live, to rest, to be. During the Christmas season, we are reminded that the story of Jesus begins with a small family who had no place to stay for the night. Jesus, Mary and Joseph ended up lodging with the cattle in a stable. Scripture records that “the Son of God had no place to lay his head.” As we approach Christmas in 2020, many in the country and in our own town also have no place to live. Lighting the way for our mail carriers

Our mail carriers have been doing a great job. But with shorter days many of the routes are finishing deliveries well after dark making their work much more dangerous. To assist them I would like to suggest that at dusk we turn on our outside porch lights to make their work safer, easier and quicker.
