Thoughts on the election

Four years ago there was an election. The Democratic candidate lost the electoral college vote, even though she had won more of the popular vote. Many of us were devastated. Some of us cried, some prayed, many feared for the future under a President who came to power by creating the birther conspiracy, campaigning by bullying every other candidate, and with no knowledge of how government works and no desire to learn. However, our candidate made her concession speech and we accepted that she had lost and that there would be a peaceful transition of power because that how elections are ...

A breath of fresh air

The recent rejection by the Supreme Court of the Republican lawsuit that attempted to overturn a free and fair US election because it didn’t go their way, was a welcome breath of fresh air in this fetid Trump environment. Incredibly, this treasonous effort was backed by 19 Republican state attorneys general, and 126 US Representatives, including Rep. Bill Johnson. This was blatant sedition, and every one of them deserves to be immediately expelled from office. They have betrayed their oath to serve and protect our constitution, and they have instead shown themselves as its enemies. So ...

It’s madness to support the Texas lawsuit

I was disappointed to learn in Friday’s Marietta Times that the Washington County Commissioners resolved to request that Ohio Attorney General David Yost reverse his opposition to the Texas lawsuit. Texas Attorney General Paxton’s strategy was a coordinated attempt to use legal means to reject the will of the American people, a Biden-Harris victory which roughly half of the Republican members of Congress (including our Representative Johnson) and our own Commissioners apparently refuse to accept. 2020 has been a bizarre year, and so I suppose in some ways this is a fitting ending. I ...

Shame on our elected officials

Our congressman, our three county commissioners, both of our state representatives and our state senator have all publicly stated — on the record — that they no longer believe in the Constitution of the United States. “It’s just a piece of parchment with words on it.” Each one of them openly and publicly declared that if the United States Supreme Court didn’t overturn the election of Joe Biden, then our Constitution is meaningless. The Supreme Court refused to hear the case to overturn the election. So, as of today, we are solely represented by elected officials who don’t ...

Another gambling place?

Petitions are being circulated to citizens requesting the Planning Commission deny Christine Bender, owner of DaVinci’s restaurant a variance to add a gaming facility in the proposed development on the restaurant lot, bringing in buses. We do not want our town to be known for gambling! Property values in the entire city will be devalued. Increased revenue at what cost to our citizens and community? The DECISION magazine December issue, page 17 states the negative effects of predatory drug and gambling industries on communities and families. The article further stated pastors and ...

Where’s the worry?

First, three Washington County commissioners or commissioners-elect appear maskless within feet of each other during a historic pandemic that has killed 300,000 Americans. Second, current commissioners Kevin Ritter, David White and Ron Feathers urge the Republican Ohio Attorney General David Yost to join the insipid Texas suit to destroy the little bit of America left after four years of Donald J. Trump. (Ritter says he is a Constitutional expert). Must be true. The commissioners obviously have too much time on their hands. It is not as if they have led the county to bankruptcy as ...
