Honorary plaque was dedicated to State Rep. Andy Thompson

MARIETTA – An association that fosters the oil and gas industry has erected a plaque to honor a late representative from Marietta to the Ohio General Assembly.

Andy Thompson, a Republican who represented the 95th District in the Ohio House of Representatives, died on May 13, 2020, at the age of 57.

The Southeastern Ohio Oil and Gas Association on June 12 installed a memorial plaque placed on the Marietta bike path to honor Thompson’s memory. A dogwood tree was also planted.

Thompson, who served in the Ohio House from 2011 to 2018 when he retired from public office, was a supporter of the association. Previous to his service in the Assembly, Thompson was on Marietta City Council.

Thompson, who is survived by his wife, Jade, and three children, was a member of the Thompson family that founded and operated “Bird Watcher’s Digest” in Marietta.

The Southeastern Ohio Oil and Gas Association on June 12 honored the late Andy Thompson, who served in the Ohio House of Representatives and on Marietta City Council, with a memorial plaque and a dogwood tree at the Marietta bike path.

The association ceremony was held on June 12 and attended by his wife, Ohio Rep. Bill Johnson, Marietta Mayor Josh Schlicher, Councilwoman Cassidi Shoaf and Thompson’s sons Nathaniel and August.

Mrs. Thompson expressed her gratitude for honoring her late husband.
