Police investigate weekend homicide

A 23-year-old man was killed Saturday night at an apartment complex in the 300 block of Dale Street. Marietta police officers were dispatched at 11:14 p.m. to a disturbance at the complex. Upon arrival, officers found an apartment with all windows smashed out. The unnamed victim had a severe stab wound in the torso, according to Marietta Police Chief Aaron Nedeff. First aid efforts were performed by Marietta police and then by Marietta Fire Department. Snyder sentenced for extortion

A Dresden man was sentenced to 24 months in prison Monday after pleading guilty in March to four counts of extortion, all third-degree felonies. Jason Mark Snyder, 27, of 18 W. Eighth St., had threatened a Marietta woman and said if she did not comply with his demands, he would show photographs she previously sent him to her friends and family to disgrace her, Washington County Prosecutor Nicole Coil said. Williamstown council awards sidewalk project contract

WILLIAMSTOWN — Williamstown City Council awarded a contract for a sidewalk improvement project and appointed new Bee City members on Tuesday. Wood County opens 911 Center bids

PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Commission will be looking at five contracting companies to pick one who will do the renovation work on the former Suddenlink building to turn it into the new Wood County 911 Center. Architect Adam Krason, of ZMM Architects & Engineers of Charleston, appeared before the commission Thursday to open the bids and read the amounts to officials.
