It is time to wake up

Recently I watched an interview with liberal author Naomi Wolf. Our political beliefs are far apart, but she is right on the money about what is going on in this country and where we stand as a nation. She states that we have been so divided, we are missing the rise of the totalitarian police state using a pandemic to achieve the goal. She went on to blame government as well as large corporate interests. We have witnessed a complete abandonment of Constitutional principals and rights. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say anything about suspending the rights of people in order to be ...

Tilting at windmills

Did you know that Texas generates 70% of its energy from fossil fuels? If you’re like me, I’m guessing you didn’t. I’m also guessing that in the wake of a severe arctic storm blasting the United States, you’ve probably heard something to the effect that “frozen wind turbines caused millions of people to lose power during freezing temperatures across the Lone Star state.” What you probably didn’t hear from these same folks is that wind energy makes up a mere 24% of Texas energy production, and that at least 80% of outages across the state were due to the failures of ...

Thank you Portman, Brown

At Oriana House, one of the primary ways we fulfill our mission of contributing to safer communities is by helping our clients overcome barriers that prevent them from working and earning sustainable living wages. The Work Opportunity Tax Credit has been an invaluable tool for helping companies throughout Ohio hire and retain hard-working individuals who just need a chance. This has helped to bring thousands of Ohioans off of the sidelines and off of public assistance and into meaningful careers. For these reasons, we greatly appreciate and support U.S. Senators Rob Portman and Sherrod ...

Taxes

After hearing that Governor Justice and many of the legislators in Charleston want to eliminate personal income taxes, I am very upset. I do not mind paying my taxes when the money is used for us – like good roads, schools, parks etc. According to the West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy West Virginia, our state income tax is progressive, meaning it is setup so that higher-income residents pay a larger share than low- and middle-income residents. It is much fairer than the federal setup. How do the Governor and legislators proposed to pay for all we need? They want to raise ...

Thank you, Bill Johnson

On Nov. 3, Representative Bill Johnson easily won reelection in Washington County with 73% of the votes cast. The enormity of his win was a victory for all in Washington County who value his support and work for – to name just a few – freedom of speech, the sanctity of human life, freedom of religious expression, border security, our vital local energy industry, broadband initiatives, a strong military, and especially, the bedrock importance that any legally-registered citizen who chooses to exercise his right to vote can be certain that his vote will be tallied correctly and will ...

Complicit

Any U.S. Senator who votes/voted not to convict Donald J Trump lighting the fire creating an insurrection Jan. 6 at the U.S. Capitol, they are complicit in the insurrection. Any voters against U.S. Senate impeachment conviction are traitors, as is Trump. White suprematists cannot be allowed to continue their 400 years of abuse of our brothers and sisters. We the people, must at last, be ALL the people. Roger G. Kalter Marietta
